Takamine EG523SC Jumbo Electro Acoustic guitar

The EG523SC is an attractive Jumbo electro-acoustic guitar from Takamine and is crafted from Spruce and flamed Maple raw materials. The guitar’s top uses Solid Spruce whilst the sides and rear are made from Flamed Maple. The neck is mahogany with a Rosewood finger board and 20 jumbo frets, the fret board is inlaid with block Mother of Pearl and Abalone position markers.

The machine heads are chrome plated die-cast sealed units whilst the headstock adorns the Takamine logo, at the opposite end of the instrument the bridge is also manufactured using Rosewood.

The surface of the guitar has a high gloss finish and is available in black or natural wood, the sound hole is encircled by a decorative pearloid rosette and is adjacent to a stylish tortoise shell scratch plate. The aesthetic decoration is completed by the inclusion of black and white line trim running around the outer edge of the body.

The TK-40 Pre-amp and pick-up which are situated on the side of the guitar afford 3 band EQ, a volume control and an on-board guitar tuner to help to re-create the natural sound of the guitar in an amplified environment.

This is a beautiful acoustic guitar, the flamed maple and Mother of Pearl inlays makes this instrument stand out from the crowd. As you’d expect from Takamine the finish and build is of the highest quality and is matched by a delightfully resonant and lush acoustic sound with a sparkling, sultry top end.

The neck feels very similar to that on an electric guitar and is comfortable with both open and bar chords, once connected to an amplified source the results don’t disappoint either. The amplified tone still retains the bright, resonant quality that the guitar had when played acoustically, whilst the 3 band EQ helps to tighten up the sound when playing in hostile acoustic environments.

Takamine are renowned for manufacturing high quality acoustic instruments and as such are by no means a budget line of guitars, their instruments are without doubt expensive and perhaps therefore more suited to the serious acoustic guitar player. However, that said, they do deliver beautifully crafted acoustic guitars and basses using the optimum quality raw materials and components. Try this guitar and you’ll see what I mean ...
