Here's a futuristic looking guitar from Ibanez following on from their early radical shapes such as the Iceman. This model is officially entitled the Xiphos and is almost star shaped but will undoubtedly look very cool when slung around the neck ...
Specification-wise it uses the Ibanez Wizard II 5 piece Maple thru-neck attached to a Mahogany body - which is most unusual as most Ibanez guitars use basswood on the body, but this will undoubtedly increase the sustaining qualities of the instrument. The neck has a Rosewood finger board that is bound at the edges with 24 jumbo frets and inlaid reverse sharkfin fret markers.
The two pick-ups located at the bridge and neck positions are Dimarzio D Activator Open-coil Hum-Buckers that are managed via a single tone and additional volume control and are selected via a 3-way toggle switch situated adjacent to these rotary controls ...
The Edge III Locking Tremolo system provides the ultimate in control, tuning accuracy and stability and is finished in an attractive brushed aluminium matt type finish. Ibanez has also been working on a new way of painting their guitars, - the Chameleon Paint is an interesting innovation in guitar finishing. The paint responds to light and it appears to change color as the guitar moves, it's very pleasing to the eye and I am reliably informed that it costs less to utilise than lacquer.
