Description

Epiphone SG310 SG Electric Guitar Ebony

Epiphone offer high quality copies of Gibson original guitar models therefore allowing the man on the street access to modestly priced high quality emulations of Gibson guitars. This is largely due to the fact that many years ago Gibson purchased Epiphone and under license allowed them to produce instruments for the middle tier market.

Which brings me nicely onto the Epiphone SG310, the phrase “SG” actually stands for “Solid Guitar” and the SG has been around since the 1960’s when it was used by many eminent musicians. In the 1980’s the SG somewhat fell out of favour until it was re-vitalised by none other than Angus Young of the band AC/DC.

The 310 has a solid Alder wood body with a bolt-on Mahogany neck and the fret-board is Rosewood. The pick-ups are open coil hum-buckers and each one has its own tone and volume control and is managed via a 3 way switch.

All hardware is chrome plated and this includes the tune-o-matic bridge and tail-piece along with the machine heads. The SG 310 is available in Black, Cherry or Vintage Sunburst …

This instrument will perhaps appeal to the purists amongst you who merely want to concentrate all of their efforts on the music and don’t wish to be hindered by technology. Some people believe that the simpler the design, the less chance there is for things to go wrong, and in that sense the SG could be thought of as a reliable instrument.

From speaking to a cross section of guitar players the SG is a model that you either love or hate, those who grew up in the era of the SG tend to have a soft spot for it, whilst other musicians who came along afterwards tend not to hold it in such high esteem. Either way there’s no denying that the SG has become an icon of the guitar industry …
