Description

Squier Telecaster Affinity Series Electric Guitar in Black

The Squier Affinity Telecaster is part of Squier’s entry-level guitar range ideally suited to novices and beginners, the Affinity telecaster is faithfully copied from Fender’s original instrument but is manufactured and priced to fit within a specific budget.

Just like the Fender Telecaster the Affinity uses a solid Alder body and bolt-on Maple neck with a Polyurethane finish and 21 medium jumbo frets adorning the Maple fret-board. There are two standard single coil pick-ups at the neck and bridge positions with a single volume and separate tone control, the Affinity deploys a 6 saddle (one for each string) top load chrome plated bridge.

Other hardware includes chrome plated machine heads and tone and volume pots and a 3 way blade type pick up selector switch decked out with the familiar black plastic top hat switch tip. The pick ups are enveloped by a 1-ply white plastic scratch plate and the Affinity Telecaster has strap buttons at the shoulder and base of the instrument.

Straight from the factory the action on this instrument was nice and low and the machine heads were smooth and provided stable tuning once they had been tuned to concert pitch for 10 minutes.

The only slight disappointment with this instrument is the sound, whilst the Affinity pick-ups were adequate, they did not have any where near the same bite and brightness associated with the original Fender Telecaster and fell somewhat short of the mark. However, this should be taken in the context of the price of the instrument which is approximately 25% of the total price of an original Fender Telecaster.

The good news is that should you wish you could easily upgrade the pick-ups on this guitar to something more substantial and you’d then have a real hot-rod Telecaster. So to summarise, this is a fabulous beginner’s guitar and even though the sound falls a little short of the mark, it can be rectified by changing the pick-ups, so I have no problem in recommending this instrument.
