Description

Fender Jim Root Telcaster Electric Guitar Flat Black

Jim Root is the guitar player with the band Slipknot and also Stone Sour and in collaboration with him Fender has designed a modern style Telecaster that is an interesting hybrid of modern technology with traditional build techniques.

For example, the body is manufactured from Mahogany – not a traditional wood used in the production of the Fender Telecaster, the neck is the more recognisable Maple variety although there is a choice of a Maple or Ebony fret boards - the Maple variety is used here.

All hardware is in black including the black 6-saddle strings-through-body hard-tail bridge, the EMG active pick-ups and the Schaller die-cast machine heads. The pick-ups are the EMG 60 at the neck with the EMG 81 at the bridge and are managed via a traditional 3 way blade type selector switch where the middle position activates both pick-ups.

Interestingly this guitar has no tone control unlike traditional Fender Telecasters – just a single master volume control. The guitar is available in “Flat black” like the review model here, or “Flat White” although I’m not quite sure what is meant by the “Flat” colour reference … ?

For me personally, the great thing about signature models such as the Jim Root Telecaster is that the traditional rule book is overlooked and new fresh ideas are tried that make interesting guitar configurations. The Mahogany body does add a little more sustain and depth to the sound and the combination of this and the twin hum-buckers produces refreshingly different tone options.

Some people will see this as a good thing whilst purists will no doubt disagree however I can only offer my own opinion and encourage guitar players to actually come and try this model to find out themselves. Personally I really like this guitar, the EMG pick-ups give great warm sustain whilst retaining a little of the Telecaster “twang”.

Of course the best way to form your own opinion is to come down to the Nevada Music Warehouse and try it … !
