Fender Jim Root Telcaster Electric Guitar Flat Black
Jim Root is the guitar player with the band Slipknot and also Stone Sour and in collaboration with him Fender has designed a modern style Telecaster that is an interesting hybrid of modern technology with traditional build techniques.
For example, the body is manufactured from Mahogany – not a traditional wood used in the production of the Fender Telecaster, the neck is the more recognisable Maple variety although there is a choice of a Maple or Ebony fret boards - the Maple variety is used here.
All hardware is in black including the black 6-saddle strings-through-body hard-tail bridge, the EMG active pick-ups and the Schaller die-cast machine heads. The pick-ups are the EMG 60 at the neck with the EMG 81 at the bridge and are managed via a traditional 3 way blade type selector switch where the middle position activates both pick-ups.
Interestingly this guitar has no tone control unlike traditional Fender Telecasters – just a single master volume control. The guitar is available in “Flat black” like the review model here, or “Flat White” although I’m not quite sure what is meant by the “Flat” colour reference … ?
