Jim Root is the guitar player with the band Slipknot and also Stone Sour and in collaboration with him Fender has designed a modern style Telecaster that is an interesting hybrid of modern technology with traditional build techniques.
For example, the body is manufactured from Mahogany – not a traditional wood used in the production of the Fender Telecaster, the neck is the more recognisable Maple variety although there is a choice of a Maple or Ebony fret board.
All hardware is in black including the black 6-saddle strings-through-body hard-tail bridge, the EMG active pick-ups and the Schaller die-cast machine heads. The pick-ups are the EMG 60 at the neck with the EMG 81 at the bridge and are managed via a traditional 3 way blade type selector switch where the middle position activates both pick-ups.
Interestingly this guitar has no tone control unlike traditional Fender Telecasters – just a single master volume control. The guitar is available in “Flat black” or “Flat White” although I’m not quite sure what is meant by the “Flat” colour reference … ?
