Description

Orange Crush 3 Mini Amp

One of the latest products to come out of the Orange amplifiers stable is the Orange Micro Crush mini-amplifier, standing at just 5 inches high this little beauty runs on a 9volt battery or alternatively on an external 9 volt power adapter.

Despite its miniscule size the Micro Crush has some practical features for guitarists starting with switch-able dual channels that provide clean or overdriven sounds. The custom designed 4” speaker can provide a decent range of tonal options despite its diminutive dimensions, and although the official power rating is a modest 1 watt, this mini-amp sounds a heck of a lot louder than that.

The wise old owls at Orange have even included a fully functional chromatic tuner with tuning LED’s easily visible from the top of the amp; the basic chassis is metal with a wooden casing and sports a volume and tone control to shape the overall sound.

In keeping with its bigger brothers the exterior of the Micro crush is covered with Orange’s trademark bright orange textured vinyl along with a genuine Orange grill cloth and a miniature Orange crest. It also sports a headphone input so that you can sit back and play without disturbing anyone, as the insertion of the headphone jack automatically mutes the speaker.

Nevada Review

At first I thought this was one of those pre-Christmas stocking filler type presents that Mums would buy for their guitar obsessed sons or daughters, but in fact having played it for a few days I have come to the conclusion that the Micro Crush is far more than that.

Firstly, the sound is respectable but not terrific, obviously it’s never going to sound like a Marshall JMP 1, but considering the diminutive size of the speaker and power rating of 1 watt the sound is quite commendable if somewhat limited tonally.

Nonetheless, to be able to carry this around with you and run it from a 9 volt battery is no bad thing; although I have to be honest and say that I have been using it with the power adapter and therefore have no idea how long a battery would last. The in-built tuner is also a master stroke and is almost worth the price of the unit alone …
