Seiko ST01 Chromatic Tuner
I have always considered a guitar tuner a must have about my personage before I leave home, whilst other people hunt for house or car keys before disappearing out the door I go through the same ritual each time.
Feel in the back pocket for the wallet, feel in the right hand pocket for haemorrhoid cream (you can never have too much) and finally there in my inside jacket pocket is my guitar tuner. Whew …. panic over ….
Even when I head off to Asda to buy new pants and socks (just once a year) I cannot browse the boxer short aisle without my trusty tuner snuggled next to my chest. So imagine my absolute joy when I laid my eyes upon the SEIKO ST01 key ring tuner, but hang on a minute, don’t SEIKO make watches I hear you say … ?
Well, yes you’re absolutely correct they do indeed make watches, so I can only assume this is a subtle punt into the world of music technology to see how successful a venture it turns out to be.
The ST01 is a cute and minute little beastie, at just 6cm long this chrome stick style chromatic tuner will sit happily with you car or house keys. It’s also a doddle to use thanks to the built-in microphone and small LED screen, just press the power switch to turn the ST-01 on and input the sound of you electric or acoustic guitar or bass into the built-in microphone.
The tuner then names the note while direction arrows indicate deviation in 1 cent increments in a range from A0 to C8. The arrows flash quickly when you are way out of tune, then a green LED lights when you're tuned in – what could be simpler ?
