Tascam MPGT1 Guitar Phrase Trainer
When I was knee high to a grasshopper I vividly remember playing single records (remember them?) at 331/3 RPM speed in a vain attempt to hear the exact notes played by George Harrison as I struggled to learn his guitar solos. Now fast forward 30 years (I was only 9 years old at the time …. honestly) and those clever chaps from Tascam have invented a clever bit of technology that makes learning guitar parts an absolute doddle …
May I present the MPGT1 which is a neat little box that plays your favourite track in MP3 format and allows you to play along with it via the jack input. Not only that, but it will also provide you with a selection of high quality guitar and vocal effects (just in case you happen to want to sing along also) and furthermore contains vari-speed technology that slows down the track without altering the pitch. This then permits you to slow down all those widdley- widdley solos, learn them by heart and then play them back (albeit very badly and clumsily) exactly as per the song.
And there’s more …. (Uh-oh, I’m rapidly sounding like an Irish comedian here) The MPGT also allows you to set up loop points for continuous repetition of particular sections of a song and includes single play and continuous play functions. Other features comprise a metronome, a chromatic tuner and a footswitch input for flash start or effects switching, not only that but all of this is powered by the internal battery
