Description

Earthwood Acoustic Extra Light 10s

Earthwood Acoustic strings are manufactured on behalf of Ernie Ball who’s name and reputation is synonymous with quality guitar strings going back over several decades. Earthwood is effectively the “acoustic” division of the Ernie Ball range of guitar strings and the Ernie Ball logo is clearly displayed on the front of the string pack. This surely must give musicians a certain amount of comfort and confidence in the product knowing that the acoustic range of strings are also manufactured to the same Ernie Ball standard of quality and excellence.

The core materials involved in the manufacturing of the Earthwood strings are copper and zinc with the percentage split being 80% copper and the remaining 20% zinc. These materials have fine acoustic and resonant qualities and are wire wrapped around tin plated hex shaped core wire, this process helps to keep the string stable and to produce a full range of sonic frequencies via the vibration of the string when plucked or strummed.

Earthwood strings have become popular with some of the famous names within the industry particularly in the US where they are used and endorsed by The Eagles, legendary British country guitarist Albert Lee, rock icon Keith Richards and American country star Kenny Wayne Sheppard.

I tried the Earthwood strings on my Ovation Balladeer electro-acoustic guitar and was extremely pleased with the results. Some people believe that strings are strings, are strings …. In other words they bear no direct influence over the sound of the instrument. Personally I believe that this could not be farther from the truth, having the right gauge and brand of strings is for me an integral part of the whole sound concept and affects the performance accordingly.

I can remember touring Denmark and Norway in my youth with a disco band, during the Scandinavian winters in the big halls and school gymnasiums where we used to play, the temperature used to vary significantly and my guitar was forever slipping in and out of tune. It was only when I tried a heavier gauge of string and opened my guitar case two hours before show-time to allow the strings to slowly acclimatise to the environment that things became more stable. The laboured point I am making here is that strings do matter and can sometimes make or break your buying decision when trying a new guitar.
