Recorders are a popular choice with small children who are old enough to attend school and many educational establishments encourage the pupils with recorder lessons and the formation of recorder bands.
Although recorders are a relatively simple instrument and entry level models can be purchased for less than £10.00, they do require a level of understanding of musical theory and a certain amount of fingering technique from the child.
Whilst this is well within the capabilities of most children, it is a discipline that calls for a degree of focus and concentration and both parents and teachers should be aware of this before suggesting or recommending the instrument to a child blow the age of seven.
