Chimes are a musical instrument which fall into the percussion family. They consist of suspended tubes which can be made of plastic or metal and are hollow.
The length of each tube determines the note it will make when played. Playing chimes involves striking the tubes with a suitable percussion hammer or mallet depending on their size. Chimes are mostly used in orchestras and schools and this important instrument still has a big part to play in our musical heritage.
