2Box DrumIt Five Electronic Drum Kit
The DrumIt 5 is the first offering from Swedish music technology boffins 2Box, and represents a major breakthrough in electronic drum kits. Unlike other electronic drums, the DrumIt 5 is a versatile drum sound canvas, allowing you the freedom to import whatever sounds you want and fit whichever heads you choose.
The Kit
In designing the Drumit Five kit, 2Box have thrown out all preconceptions of what an electronic drum kit is and is not. They've looked at everything, and thought "how can we make this better?" - starting with the specially designed rack. Light-weight, roadworthy and easy to set-up, it allows you to adjust pads and cymbals to your particular playing style, just like a real kit. The kick position is adjustable, despite being mounted to the stand. The result is a sturdy kit that mimics the feel and response of a 'real' drum kit.
Built around a high quality, low weight pad/cymbal system, all of the DrumIt Five 'pads' feature independent Rim and Head sensors, and uniquely, they offer the possibility to play any type of regular drum head, mesh head or 2Box's special rubber head! All heads are interchangeable in the same way as on a regular drum, and although the 'drums' themselves are lightweight, they're cast in aluminum and extremely strong.
The DrumIt 5 Hi-Hat uses a real hi-hat stand, and works the same as a conventional acoustic hi-hat - i.e. the playing surface actually moves up and down with your pedal. It has the same silent rubber surface as the cymbals, and the built-in sensor detects the vertical movement, which - together with the multi-zone sensor - enables it to reproduce the broad sound palette inherent to a hi-hat. The cymbals behave just like 'the real thing', too... They're free to swing on their stand, and can be played at any part of the surface. They all have three zones: bell, ride and edge. By gripping the edge, you can even choke the cymbal sound.
This all adds up to create a playing experience that is insanely close to that of playing a real kit - and that's just the hardware. Add in the brain & software, and the result is truly incredible....
The Brain
Equally groundbreaking is the Drumit 5 brain. With a massive 4GB onboard flash memory and USB interface, it actually lets you use any samples you want! What's more, the sound engine uses a proprietary lossless compression format for pristine audio quality with stunning dynamic range, producing output in glorious 24-bit quality across 1 to 6 independent outputs (plus stereo headphone output).
The DrumIt sound library comes fully loaded with drum sounds from a comprehensive range of multi-channel, multi-layer samples - all of which have been recorded in professional studios and edited by top session players. Despite these high quality professional drum sounds, however, what makes the Drum It 5 unique is the ability to import your own sounds, creating your dream drum kit!
Using the included DrumIt Five editor software (PC & Mac compatible), you can make your own multi-sampled sounds from Wave, Aiff or Rex files. Together with sounds from the DrumIt library, you can create any kit you desire. DrumIt Editor allows the user to create kits on their computer by way of easy drag-and-drop editing. Sounds can be played from the virtual pads to check how the kit will sound. The multi-channel, multi-layered DrumIt sounds can be remixed and adjusted to the user's own taste. All these - along with future software upgrades - can be downloaded via USB to the DrumIt module.
