Roland TD-9K V-Drums Electronic Drum Kit

Roland's TD-9 Electronic Drum Kit range is available as two seperate models, with this TD-9K version being the little brother of the TD-9KX. Offering the same state of the art V-Drum technology, this model is slightly cheaper - the main difference being that the toms are kitted out with rubber pads instead of mesh heads.

The brain powering this technology is the powerful TD-9 module, which is capable of blending a couple of hundred new sounds with real audio songs and patterns, plus features newly developed practice facilities and quick record/play features. The TD9 module is also compatible with the optional VH-11 hi-hat, and can handle three-way Ride cymbal triggering and dual-triggering Toms, so you can upgrade without having to buy a whole new kit.

The TD-9 drum module has a large backlit display and easy to use over-sized controls, with icon-based on-screen menus to make editing and programming new kits/sounds quicker and easier. There's also a built-in scope-mode skill builder to help make practice sessions more enjoyable, and to allow you to grade your own skill level (and measure your progression!).

An on-board USB interface lets you play along with your favourite MP3s direct from your memory stick. The module sits clamped to the new MDS-9 drum rack that has 4 sturdy legs to support the hardware, as well as new ball-joint mounts and adjustable hi-hat arms.

The TD-9K is a fully-featured electronic drum kit with awesome sound quality, as well as plenty of features for enjoyment and practice, making it versatile enough for home, studio and live use. The combination of additional new sounds and ability to play along with MP3 audio tracks means you'll never get bored with playing this kit - plus, take the skill builder feature into account, and you have an electronic kit that will not only grow with you over the years, but actually make you a better drummer through your enjoyment of playing.

(NB: Despite the fact that a Kick Drum appears in the image above, you'll need to purchase this item seperately as a Kick Drum pedal is not included with this product. See our Related Products below for some great deals on pedals!)

by Gig Stig

I spoke with a friend of mine recently, he is a professional live sound engineer and the conversation turned to the Roland V-Drums range and in particular the Roland TD-9 kit. I asked him what he thought of them, and he responded by saying that the easiest job in the world is getting the TD-9 to sound good in a live situation. "How do you do it ...?" I asked, "Simple" he replied, "just push up the volume faders!"

The point he was making is just how good the TD-9 sounds out-of-the-box - each of the drum samples have already been eq'd, compressed and dynamically enhanced during the sampling process to give pristine sound quality. All the drummer has to do is hit the damn things!

As always with Roland, the build quality and playability of this kit are second to none.  The major upgrade with the Roland TD9 from the previous model (the TD6) is in the sound module.  The acoustic sounds have been vastly improved, and the addition of "real" backing tracks adds a completely new dimension to practising. The larger, backlit screen and easy to use operating system put this kit in a league of it's own... The Roland TD9 is by far the best electronic kit you can buy for this kind of money.

Plus, all the regular advantages of an electronic kit still ring true with the TD9:-

Fabulous CD-quality Drum samples
Silent rehearsal via headphone output
Small footprint when compared to an acoustic kit
Easier to pack down/store/transport

It's easy to see why the Roland TD-9 was voted "Best Electronic Drum Kit 2008" at the MIA industry awards...
