More often called a "deck", you need a turntable to play the vinyl disc. The most popular turntable is the Technics 1210 which has been the standard for DJs since the early days. Other brands include Numark who produce a wide range of turntables from entry level to pro.
Two types of turntable are commonly used; the belt drive which is more of an entry level product and the direct drive which is a far more versatile choice of deck. Belt drive decks have a slower startup time and are not really a suitable option for the stability required when beat mixing. Direct drive turntables have an almost instantaneous startup and offer excellent speed stability. As such this type of deck is hugely popualr among DJs.
