Today, our lives are goverened in one way or another by computers and the PC revolution has now infiltrated the music industry. Previously albums were recorded by the elite few in expensive recording studios, but not any more. If computer technology has done one thing in the music industry it is to hand back the creative power to the musician on the street.
Inexpensive software applications now enable an entire album to be recorded in a room no bigger than a bedroom which means that hobby musicians can now suddenly compete on an even keel with the professionals. With a few midi instruments, a high powered PC and some sequencing software it's possible to record a high quality digital audio music track that can be released across the world via the internet.
Samplers, Drum machines and MIDI keyboards remove the need for sophisticated recording studios with expensive acoustically treated drum booths - unless you specifically want to use the traditional recording methods using real musicians. However, this luxury is generally beyond the budgets of most young, budding songwriters and so computer music has provided the chance to achieve the same ends via an alternative route.
