Tascam US144 USB2 interface
The Tascam US-144 is a portable USB Audio & MIDI interface with an in-built Digital In/Out connection. In a similar fashion to the US-122 the Tascam US-144 provides an interface when utilising microphones, acoustic instruments and line-in instruments onto a software based recording package. The 2 x XLR microphone inputs are equipped with phantom power and are accompanied by 2 further analogue line inputs for recording keyboards, guitars and other sound generator modules.
Once the device is connected to a PC, Mac or laptop via the USB 2.0 input on the US-144 a recording can commence. The musical notes are converted to data by the software package and when played back the sequencing software treats the file as “sampled audio”.
The device also has a full MIDI I/O interface which allows synchronisation and automation of devices that are attached. CD quality audio can be achieved thanks to the 96 KHz/24-bit sampling rate and track monitoring is done with zero latency, which essentially means without an audible sound delay.
A neat feature is the separate headphone output & level control and it’s handy to know that you won’t need a power supply for this device as the power is drawn from the internal USB bus.
There’s a choice of stereo analogue outputs or a digital S/PDIF out to keep the recording in the digital domain.
