You can purchase a decent bass guitar for just a few hundred pounds or splash out several thousand pounds for a specially customised or rare instrument. It's important to match your budget to your playing limitations as a really expensive bass would be wasted on a complete novice and likewise, a starter pack isn't ideally suited to an experienced session bass player.

Whilst a bass guitar can pretty much adapt itself to almost any style, certain models suit specific genres better than others. Bass guitars also come with short, mid and long scale necks so these choices also need to be carefully considered and it's usually a good idea trying out several different models to see what suits your own playing style the best.
