Many famous guitarists have allowed guitar manufacturers to produce a copy of their instruments. A limited edition will become very desirable and collectors usually snap them up very quickly. These collectable basses will not be cheap, but as the number produced is small, they are built mainly by hand.
Typical collectable bass guitars are made by Fender with the Stu Hamm bass and Ibanez who also have a range of signature models. When you get a limited edition, it can be viewed as a long term investment as they are produced as a single batch. Some may choose to play them daily while collectors often put them away to appreciate in value.
