Description

Ibanez GSR200 Jewel Blue Bass Guitar

This Ibanez GSR 200 bass guitar is part of the Soundwave range that was first launched by Ibanez in 1987 and is still prominent and popular today. Whilst the GSR 200 is considered by many to be positioned at the entry level market point it does have raw materials and features in common with more upmarket and expensive Ibanez models.

The body is crafted from Agathis, a lightweight and resonant tone wood and features the Ibanez GSR4 medium scale neck with 22 medium frets. The pick-ups are the Ibanez PSNDP at the neck and the PSNDJ at the bridge with separate volume controls for each and a single tone control. Aside from this the bass incorporates the Ibanez Phat II Active Bass boost control which is operated via a single tone pot and can be blended in with the pick up sound to enhance the overall output, tone and depth.

Ibanez have utilised the B10 bridge with 19mm string spacing and the bridge, machine heads and tone and volume pots are all chrome plated.

This is a perfectly good bass guitar for a beginner or as a back-up instrument for an established bassist and whilst it may not have the bells and whistles of some of the more upmarket brands, it is well made and sounds good. The Phat II EQ boost will help to vary some of the tonal options and it does slightly increase the volume when activated.

The neck plays well and is slim and elegant considering the price of this instrument whilst the finish is equally good with nicely edged frets and a low action without any fret buzz. The sound is good without being great but could be improved upon by a decent amplifier that perhaps has a compressor/limiter and graphic equaliser built-in – otherwise foot pedals may do the same job.

All in all this instrument gives very good value for money when taking the price into consideration.
