Bass Guitar Amps

Bass Guitar Amplifiers

Bass Guitar Amplifiers

The actual sound of bass amplifiers has changed radically since their debut in the late 1950s and early 60s, at which time they were traditionally made as valve amps. However, as the need for greater volume and clarity of sound became more...

Compact & Practice Amplifiers

Compact & Practice Amplifiers

The advances in amplification and speaker technology mean that physically, smaller amplifiers can be much more efficient; producing higher wattage output and greater tonal variations, but within a smaller and more compact footprint. It is therefore...

Cabinet Speakers

Cabinet Speakers

Speaker Cabinets for bass guitars need to be sturdily made and re-enforced to accommodate the low frequency bass vibrations. Unless the cabinet has been made with this in mind the raw materials and glue may start to break down and for this reason...

Speaker & Amp Combos

Speaker & Amp Combos

In preference to a separate speaker cabinet and amplifier head, some musicians prefer the combination amplifier where the speaker(s) and amplifier are integrated into single chassis housing. There have been many fine examples of this over the years...

Bass Guitar Amps

The bass amplifier is considered to be slightly more complex in its nature than traditional amplifiers due to the challenges of designing and making an amplifier to accentuate and enhance low frequencies.

The challenge also affects the bass speaker, the speaker cabinet, the amplifier itself and the pre-amplifier largely due to the massive amount of air that needs to be moved to reproduce low frequencies. Bass speakers are normally re-enforced or certainly made to be more heavy-duty and generally therefore have larger magnets. The sound pressure levels need to be higher for a bass guitar to reach the same level of perceived volume as other instruments.
