Description

The new bass effects offering from Zoom is the B2 bass effects pedal and it uses Zoom's new ZFX-3 processor to handle all of the multi-effects processing. Zoom - now owned by Samson, have a credible reputation in the industry for delivering feature packed products for very reasonable prices, and this makes them particularly suitable for musicians on a budget or beginners.

The new processor provides 32 bit internal processing with a 96Khz sample rate whilst the Analogue to Digital conversion rate is 24 bit. The B2 includes 7 effects modules sub-categorised into 45 types of effects, aside from this it has a specially optimised frequency response of 20Hz to 40Khz. This is an impressive list of features but there's even more .... namely a built-in drum machine with 40 rhythm patterns and an on-board chromatic tuner ... !!

Amazingly, all of this is available at an RRP of £49.99 and needless to say all of these features at such a reasonable price make Jack a happy boy. Amongst the effect featured are :-

- Amp modelling simulation (13 examples)

- Compression & Limiting

- Parametric EQ

- Stereo Chorus & Flanging

- Harmonized Pitch shift

- Delay (Ping-Pong & Tape Echo)

- Reverb (Hall, Room & Spring)

Here's yet another fantastic product from Zoom, how they manage to pack all of these features into such a reasonable price is beyond my comprehension - but I'm not complaining ... and neither will you be once you get to try the B2.

The effects are quite simply excellent, undoubtedly helped by the ZFX-3 chip and there's enough parameters to modify the settings to your exact requirements. You can also connect an expression pedal to this unit for additional control over your effects loop. The amp simulation patches are on the whole very good although if I'm completely honest there's one or two of them that will hardly ever get used - but were perhaps included for novelty value ...

However, in the main I'd have to say that this is a fantastic product, the quality of the effects are superb, the pedal itself is rugged and will undoubtedly withstand the rigours of the road whilst the controls are intuitive and user friendly. Personall I wouldn't use the drum machine as my product of choice but it was fun playing along to the pre-programmed rhythms and the quality of the drum samples were good. The chromatic tuner is a handy addition and will be a godesend for those venues where the internal heat/cooling puts your bass strings consistently out of tune. All in all you can't really go wrong with this product ...
